upper lip wrinkles

The skin wrinkles in many different ways as you get older. After age forty, you may notice many different types of wrinkles. For examples crow’s feet, the deepening of laugh lines, and upper lip wrinkles.

In fact, some people note! Wrinkles on the upper lip develop faster between the ages of 40-50 and become difficult to treat.

There are many factors that cause upper lip wrinkles to develop! Some people are more at risk for getting them than others.

But, the good news is that most factors can be either eliminated or changed to reduce those risks.

Not everyone will experience the rapid development of lip wrinkles after the age of forty! But those who do will be able to treat them more effectively once they understand what causes them.

Sun Damage

sun damage faceIndividuals who live in areas where the sun’s rays are plentiful, such as Florida, West Texas, Arizona, and Southern California! are at greater risk for developing upper lip wrinkles than those who live in cooler, cloudier climates because the sun’s UV rays contain free radicals that can damage the skin and lead to premature aging.

When free radicals enter the skin! Destroying healthy skin cells by scavenging elements from them to chemically stabilize themselves.

When healthy skin cells are destroyed by an influx of free radicals due to sun exposure, this causes premature aging, including the development of upper lip wrinkles.

If you want to combat wrinkles on the upper lip caused by sun exposure! You can prevent future damage to your skin by protecting your skin from the sun in two ways.

Firstly, you can apply a sunscreen to your skin. Contain titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, both of which reflect the sun’s UV rays and prevent the skin from the harmful UV radiation.

Some daily moisturizers have built-in SPF protection; but, you may want to choose one that has an SPF of at least 30, especially if you have fair skin.

While SPF 15 may offer moderate protection for those with darker skin, those with mature or lighter skin may need something stronger.

Secondly, you may want to shield your face with a wide-brimmed hat if you need to go out in the sun, especially between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm, when the sunshine is at their best.

The more your skin is protected from the sun’s rays, the less likely you are to suffer from premature aging and upper lip wrinkles.

Smoking and Upper Lip Wrinkles

smoking upper lipsSmoking causes upper lip wrinkles in several ways, but the main reason they develop in smokers is that of the repetitive motions they make when they inhale tobacco smoke.

The puckering motion caused each time they inhale eventually causes wrinkles in the skin that deepen with time.

Tobacco also contains toxins that damage the surface of the skin by shrinking blood vessels and depriving the skin of oxygen.

Further, when collagen and elastin are damaged from lack of blood flow, they are difficult to replace unless you undergo dermal filler injections to smooth out the wrinkles, which can be expensive and sometimes painful.

The most effective way to prevent upper lip wrinkles caused by smoking is to avoid smoking and stop or cut down if you already smoke.

Quitting smoking has a number of health benefits to the skin, including lowering the risk of premature aging and the development of wrinkles. If you need help quitting, you can ask your doctor for advice.

While upper lip wrinkles are not easy to treat or reduce, understanding their cause is the first step toward healthier, smoother skin.

Other causes are repeated facial expressions and of course the genetics.
