DIY Detox Water Recipes To Help You Stay Refreshed

diy detox water

You just crushed a workout and your body is screaming for hydration. You reach for something cold and refreshing; maybe your favorite sports drink or flavored water ~ a healthy choice right?

Depending upon the product you choose, it might contain artificial sweeteners and dyes topped off with high levels of sodium. Mmmmm, mmmm good!

Until recently, Gatorade and Powerade contained a controversial ingredient banned in Japan and the European Union. The ingredient brominated vegetable oil is a synthetic chemical linked to flame retardants.

Although removing BVO from their sports drinks was a step in the right direction for Coca-Cola (Powerade) and PepsiCo (Gatorade), the fact remains that both beverages are high in artificial sweeteners and sodium.

Powerade contains 14 grams (2.8 teaspoons) of high fructose corn syrup and sucralose and 100mg of sodium. Gatorade’s numbers are slightly higher with 14 grams (2.8 teaspoons) of a potent sweetener mix of heavily refined sucrose syrups and glucose-fructose, as well as 110 mg of sodium.

Our bodies depend on water for survival. Proper hydration helps to flush out toxins, aid in weight loss, energize muscles and give you healthy, radiant skin. The Mayo Clinic recommends approximately 13 cups per day for an average male and 9 cups per day for the average female.

One way to jazz up your water and a growing trend is DIY Detox Water. Adding sliced fruits, veggies and herbs to your water not only adds a fresh, delicious flavor, but it also infuses your H20 with vitamins and antioxidants that help flush the impurities out of your system. Now that’s a winning combo!

Use a clean detox water bottle, pitcher, Mason jar or Voss Water Bottles. VOSS Artesian Water is imported from Norway and can be found at your local pharmacy, Costco and natural grocers.

VOSS comes in both plastic and glass bottles, look for the glass ones (BPA-free). The mouth on the bottle is rather narrow so you will need to chop and slice your ingredients accordingly.

If you are looking for a great fruit infuser water bottle, look no further than the Shano Fruit Infused Water Bottle – BPA Free. I recently ordered one to take with us on a family vaca and ~ LOVE! It’s leak-proof, easy to clean and BPA free!
